PATHOGENS

  • Streptococcus pyogenes (Group A, GAS)
    • S. pyogenes produces exotoxins SPEA, SPEB, and SPEC.
      • These toxins are superantigens capable of activating up to 25% of T cells. Therapy selected to stop toxin production.
  • Other Streptococcus species (described)
