Folliculitis
PATHOGENS
- Common pathogens:
- S. aureus: especially MRSA
- P. aeruginosa: associated with whirlpools, hot tubs, heated swimming pool exposures
- Pityrosporum: HIV-associated
- Less common pathogens:
- Coliforms: e.g., Klebsiella, Proteus spp., etc
- Demodex folliculorum: face mite, mostly HIV-associated
- HSV
- Trichophyton
- Malassezia
- Causes truncal folliculitis.
- Also, non-infectious inflammatory folliculitis in HIV: eosinophilic folliculitis
