FDA
- Complicated intra-abdominal infections
- Community-acquired pneumonia (CAP)
- Complicated urinary tract infections
- Complicated skin and skin structure infections, including diabetic foot infections without osteomyelitis
- Elective colorectal surgical prophylaxis
- Acute pelvic infections (postpartum, septic abortion, and post-surgical gynecologic infections)
- Ertapenem is now FDA indicated in pediatrics (3 months-17 yo) for above indications
NON-FDA APPROVED USES
- Mild-moderate intra-abdominal infections (cholecystitis, cholangitis, diverticulitis, splenic and hepatic abscesses, peritonitis)
- Uncomplicated ESBL infections (e.g. UTIs, billiary tract infections)
