Shigella dysenteriae
MICROBIOLOGY
- Aerobic, Gram-negative bacillus (Figure)
 - Constitutes group A of the four Shigella groups (see Shigella species module for other species).
 - An infective dose of only 10 to 100 organisms facilitates spread during outbreaks.
