Serratia species
MICROBIOLOGY
- Aerobic, Gram-negative rod of Enterobacteriaceae family, Klebsiella tribe.
- Only S. marcescens is a routine cause of human disease; others (S. liquefaciens, S. rubidaea, S. odorifera) are rare.
- Produces red hues upon growth on some nutrient agars and substances [Fig].
