Pneumonia, Aspiration
PATHOGENS
If an infection develops after aspiration, oral flora (including streptococcal species) is a consideration. For hospitalized or recently antibiotic-treated people, add Gram negatives to the consideration.
- Anaerobic bacteria: B. melaninogenicus, Fusobacterium nucleatum, Peptostreptococcus, and others
- Hospital-acquired bacteria: Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus species and Gram-negative bacilli
