- Mumps: (most common viral cause, usually bilateral enlargement)
- Enteroviruses
- CMV
- Influenza
- HIV
- Bacterial:
- Staphyloccocus aureus (most common cause of acute suppurative parotitis)
- Streptococcus species
- Actinomyces
- Mixed infections (anaerobes, Gram positives and Gram negatives)
- Mycobacterium tuberculosis (rare)
- Anaerobes (Peptostreptococcus spp., Cutibacterium acnes, Prevotella spp., Fusobacterium spp.)
