PATHOGENS
Almost any bacteria or infection implicated; among the most common pathogens identified include:
- Bacterial:
- Staphylococcus aureus (60-70% in most series)
- Streptococcus intermediatus group
- Haemophilus influenzae
- Fusobacterium necrophorum (Lemierre’s syndrome)
- Other anaerobes
- Gram-negatives
- Tuberculosis
- Fungal
- Parasitic
- Viral infections (less common), including
- Shingles (VZV)
- Dengue
- Hepatitis B virus
- Measles
- Described with COVID-19.
