- Bedbugs are insects of the genus Cimex; they derive nutrition from bloodmeals. Chemicals and enzymes such as nitrophorin and NO are thought to promote bleeding and cause cutaneous reactions.
- Common bedbugs, Cimex lectularius
- Cimex hemipterus, in tropical climates
- The environment in which bedbugs thrive is warm, lacks light and is moist.
