  • In human spirochetosis infections (HIS), these organisms predominate and can stain as Gram-negative: they may be viewed as commensals; however, rare reports of overgrowth suggest a pathogenic role in some with response to antibiotics.
    • Brachyspira aalborgi
    • Brachyspira pilosicoli
  • Organisms are not related to either Treponema or Borrelia spirochetes.
