  • Slow-growing, non-pigmented member of Mycobacterium avium complex.
    • Named in 2004 as M. chimaera due to its genetic mix of MAI strains.
    • Requires 2-6 weeks for culture growth.
    • Identification can be problematic.
  • Similar to M. avium, found in household water supplies and other water-related biofilms.
