MICROBIOLOGY

  • Non-enveloped double-stranded RNA virus, family Reoviridae
  • Rotavirus strains are classified by serogroups (A through G).
  • The rotavirus particle is physically hardy. It is inactivated by alcohol concentrations >40% (Purell, Lysol) and free chlorine.
  • The infectious dose is small.
