- Non-enveloped double-stranded RNA virus, family Reoviridae
- Rotavirus strains are classified by serogroups (A through G).
- The rotavirus particle is physically hardy. It is inactivated by alcohol concentrations >40% (Purell, Lysol) and free chlorine.
- The infectious dose is small.
