    • Staphylococcus aureus (60-70% in most series)
    • Streptococcus intermediatus group
    • Haemophilus influenzae
    • Fusobacterium necrophorum (Lemierre’s syndrome)
    • Other anaerobes
    • Gram negatives
    • Tuberculosis
  • Fungal
    • Rhizomucor
    • Mucor
    • Aspergillus
    • Coccidioides
  • Parasitic
    • Malaria
    • Toxoplasma
    • Trichinella
  • Viral infections (less common) including
    • Shingles (VZV)
    • Dengue
    • Hepatitis B virus
    • Measles
