  • Pathogenesis is not well understood. A host of oral flora is thought to participate.
  • Most frequently found:
    • Fusobacterium necrophorum
    • Prevotella intermedia
  • Other that may interact:
    • Borrelia vincentii
    • Porphyromonas gingivalis
    • Tannerella forsythia
    • Treponema denticola
    • Staphylococcus aureus
    • Some nonhemolytic Streptococci
