MICROBIOLOGY

Slow-growing Mycobacterium that grows best in vitro at 28 to 33º C.
- It may require 6-12 wks to grow in the laboratory.
Notify lab if suspicious--should prompt addition of egg yolk or reduced oxygen tension to enhance recovery.
Aquatic insects may be a vector for M. ulcerans, and some fish may be passive reservoirs.
