  • Lomefloxacin has been withdrawn from the U.S. market since 1993 due to severe adverse effects, especiallyphotosensitivity.[5][6][2]
  • The initial FDA-approved indications included:
    • Acute bacterial exacerbations of chronic bronchitis due to H.influenzae or M.catarrhalis[15][16][17]
      • Not for S.pneumoniae given high in vitro resistance.[26][10]
    • Acute cystitis due to E. coli, K. pneumoniae, P. mirabilis, or S. saprophyticus[13][25]
    • Complicated urinary tract infections due to E. coli, K. pneumoniae, P. mirabilis, P. aeruginosa, C. diversus, or E. cloacae[14][9][11][8]
    • Prophylaxis of transrectal prostate biopsy and transurethral surgical procedures[9][18][19]
