  • Cutibacterium (ex. Propionibacterium) acnes (but not likely sole causative factor)
  • Pathogenesis: It is a primary inflammatory condition that involves: (1) abnormal follicular keratinization and occlusion; (2) excessive oil/sebum production; (3) bacterial superinfection (P. acnes); and (4) release of inflammatory mediators.
